New datasets for Release 3
As part of the process of continually improving the quality, currency and comprehensiveness of its POI data, PointX is due to release a third upgrade of the Points of Interest dataset in August 2003.
The new datasets to be included in Release 3 are ATMs, Citizen's Advice Bureaux and RSPB reserves. Of these, the largest by far is LINK Interchange Network's data on cash machines (ATMs). This comprises nearly 43,000 ATMs from across Great Britain. This data is an important addition to the dataset as ATMs are one of the most popular landscape features that people wish to access.
The second dataset comprises all the advice centres operated by the Citizens Advice Bureau. Numbering just under 1000 in total, these should prove a useful addition to the data held on health support businesses.
The third dataset is provided by the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) and contains all of their bird reserves, thus adding another section of attractions that can be visited on days out.
On top of these additions, we are also undertaking a process of de-duplication to remove some of the duplicate records in the database. This has been planned for some time and will help improve the usability of the data. Other quality improvements include some minor changes to the classification system and research into adding extra fields to the current data specification so as to add depth to the data.
